What are Minocin MR Capsules?
Minocin MR Capsules contain 100mg of minocycline per capsule, which is a tetracycline antibiotic. It is not related to penicillin. Minocin MR Capsules are prescribed by doctors to treat acne. The "MR" means "modified release"
- the capsules release the active ingredient slowly to maximise the antibacterial effect.
Are Minocin MR Capsules suitable for me?
There are some situations where Minocin MR Capsules should be used with caution or would not be recommended, for example, in patients who have liver or kidney problems, myasthenia gravis, or in pregnant or breast feeding women.
If it doesn't work for you, talk to your doctor as a different acne treatment might be more successful.
If you are a woman who takes an oral contraceptive pill, the effectiveness of the pill may be reduced if you take a course of Minocin MR at the same time.
Tell the doctor if you are taking any other medicines, either from your doctor or purchased from a pharmacy. Minocin MR Capsules may not be suitable or may need to be used with caution if you are taking some medicines, such as anticoagulants (medicines to thin the blood), other oral medicines for acne, or medicines for migraines known as "ergot alkaloids". It will not be suitable if you are allergic to minocycline or other tetracycline antibiotics, or any of the other ingredients.
Some common over-the-counter medicines, especially those for indigestion or heartburn, can make Minocin MR Capsules less effective by preventing it being absorbed by the stomach. You can still take indigestion remedies while you are taking a course of Minocin MR Capsules, but it's best to separate the two medicines by at least three hours.
