Doxion
- The importance of liver health
- The liver is a vital body organ performing several key functions, such as the preoduction of hormones, enzymes & proteins. in addition the liver is responsible for the "detoxification" of substances from the blood stream such as free radicals. The major toxification agent produced by the body is glutathione, the so-called "master anti-oxidant". Good levels of glutathione help maintain a healthy liver in cats & dogs. Doxion
- an antioxidant combination Doxion is a feed supplement that helps maintain glutathione levels & provides other nutrients which help promote liver health. Doxion contains S-Adenosyl-L-methionine (SAMe) a substance naturally produced by a healthy cat or dog. The SAMe in DOxion is basorbed through the small intestine & is then metabolised to glutathione, an oxygen free radical scavenger. Doxion tablets are enteric coated to prevent the SAMe, which is unstable & highly hydroscopic, from being degraded by stomach acids. FOr this reason Doxion tablets should be administered whole & unbroken. Doxion also contains Milk Thislte another antioxidant, which has effects on iron chelation & hypatotoxins as well as glutathione concentration. It also has a range of mictonutrients designed for liver support such as; Vitamin B complex, Zinc & Amino acids. Which pets should be fed Doxion? In an older dog or cat the natural production of SAMe by the liver is reduced. Studies have shown that as a consequnce many of these animals have lowered levels of glutathione. There is currently no evidence of harmful effects from the long-term feeding of SAMe or any of the other ingredients at recommended levels. Doxion is an enteric-coated tablet, which can be fed to cats & dogs as part of a programme to help maintain liver health.
