Its neck has a mane & the face has a muzzle like a dogs. Males & females look the same. They range in size from 100 to 120 cm & weigh between 3.1 & 4.1 kg. Habitat Ruffed lemurs only live in Madagascar & spent most of their time in the high canopy of the seasonal rainforests on the eastern side of the isl&. Behaviour Ruffed lemurs live in multi-male/multi-female groups & have a complex & flexible social structure, described as fission-fusion. They are highly vocal, & have loud, raucous calls. Breeding Ruffed lemurs are seasonal breeders & highly unusual in their reproductive strategy. They are considered an "evolutionary enigma" in that they are the largest of the extant species in Lemuridae, yet exhibit reproductive traits more common in small, nocturnal lemurs, such as short gestation periods (about 102 days) & large average litter sizes (2-3). Ruffed lemurs also build nests for their newborns (the only primates that do so), carry them by mouth, & exhibit an absentee parental system by stashing them while they forage. Diet The ruffed lemurs diet consists mainly of fruit, although nectar & flowers are also favored, followed by leaves & some seeds. Strange & Interesting Facts Ruffed lemurs purr & mew like house cats & love to sunbathe with legs & arms spread wide!
