Physical Characteristics Tyrannosaurus
Rex was a fierce predatory dinosaur that walked on two powerful legs.
Tyrannosaurus Rex was up to 12.4m long, about 5 to 6m tall. But its
famously small arms were only about 1m long, each with two fingers.
Tyrannosaurus Rex was roughly 5 to 7 tons in weight
- a huge creature.
This meat-eater had a huge head with 50-60 large, pointed, replaceable
teeth & well-developed jaw muscles to. Each bird-like foot had three
large toes, all equipped with claws (plus a little dewclaw on a tiny,
vestigial fourth toe). T-Rex had a slim, stiff, pointed tail that
provided balance & allowed quick turns while running. T-Rex's neck was
short & muscular. Its body was solidly built but its bones were
hollow.
Habitat The Tyrannosaurus Rex lived in
humid, semi-tropical environment, in open forests with nearby rivers
& in coastal forested swamps. Fossils have been found in western North
America & Mongoli.
Behaviour The
Tyrannosaurus Rex walked on its toes & therefore left footprints only
46 cm long, although its feet were much longer at approx 1m long. It had
a stride length of up to 3-5 m & scientists think it may have run at
up to 15 mph.
Breeding
Diet T-Rex was a meat-eating dinosaur
- a prodigious carnivore.
Strange & Interesting Facts Tyrannosaurus
lived during the late Cretaceous period, about 85 million to 65 million
years ago. With it's huge jaws, T-Rex could eat up to an astounding 500
pounds (230 kg) of meat & bones in one giant gulp. Tyrannosaurus Rex
means Tyrant Lizard.
