A pale yellow oil with a sweet, aniseed odour. Not to be confused with Bitter Fennel, which should not be used in aromatherapy. This oil is distilled from seeds selected from several East European countries. Its main use outside aromatherapy is in flavourings for aniseed-type liquors, particularly in France. Sweet Fennel, in the form of fennel tea, has long been used to reduce bloating & improve digestion. Try the following massage blend: 2 drops of Sweet Fennel, 1 drop of Bergamot & 1 drop of Lavender blended in 10ml of Sweet Almond oil. Massage into the abdomen, using clockwise strokes. Try soaking in a warm bath containing 1 drop of Sweet Fennel, 1 drop of Cypress & 3 drops of Patchouli, all diluted in a teaspoon of Peach Kernel oil, after a long session at the gym or to improve the appearance of cellulite. Not to be used during pregnancy, by epileptics or those with high blood pressure. Use in moderation at all times. ...

Thyme Oil is water & steam-distilled from the partially dried wild herb, Thymus Vulgaris. Distillation is mainly undertaken in Spain, but also occurs elsewhere in the Mediterranean region. There are many different species of Thyme & within Thymus Vulgaris there are a variety of chemotypes that change the constituent make-up of the oil significantly. The most common chemotypes are " Thymol" & " Carvacrol", which contain high levels of toxic Phenols (up to 60% Thymol & Carvacrol). Absolute Aromas offers " Sweet Thyme", which is sweeter, less toxic & less irritant than the Thymol & Carvacrol types, with a maximum 3% concentration of these components. Try adding 1 drop each of Thyme, Lemon & Rosemary to the water in an oil burner to help create a 'germ-free zone' during times of family ills. Blend 2 drops of Thyme, 3 drops of Geranium & 1 drop of Palmarosa in a teaspoon of Peach Kernel oil. Use a body massage oil to help you get back on your feet after illness or if you are feeling run-down. Do not use Sweet Thyme during pregnancy. Using Thyme in the bath may irritate those with sensitive skin. ...

Vetiver essential oil is produced from the rootlets of a grass which grows wild in many parts of India, Sri Lanka & other parts of Asia. The rootlets are dried, cut & chopped, then soaked in water prior to distillation. The grass is cultivated for distillation in many parts of the world, the most important producers being Haiti & Java. The Indian production to date is not of a very good quality, & goes mostly into the local soap & perfume industry. Vetiver is a heavy, viscous oil with a rich undertone of "precious wood notes". Absolute Aromas has selected this Haitian oil for its excellent quality. Most Javan producers burn off the grass before digging up the roots, & this often gives a smoky note to the oil, whereas the Haitian producers cut the grass & use it for feeding cattle or for grass mats, so the oil has a much cleaner aroma. Vetiver is extremely viscous. A large nozzle in the bottle helps to some extent, but it may require gentle warming of the bottle in the hands or warm water, (and a lot of patience), to pour a few drops out. Blend 1 drop each of Vetiver, Jasmine & Sandalwood in 10ml of Peach Kernel oil for a most luxurious massage oil. To a teaspoon of Sweet Almond oil add 1 drop each of Vetiver, Patchouli & Lavender. Swish this into a very warm bath to help shrug off aches & pains on cold winter nights. ...
