The first edition of James Tyler Kent's " Lectures on Homoeopathic Materia Medica" was published in 1905. Kent felt that the speech of laymen presents all sickness to the physician's mind, hence the Materia Medica must be reduced from technicalities to simple speech. By presenting every remedy's strong characteristics Kent shows how the Materia Medica is evolved & used. This is one of the first instances where a remedy picture is portrayed. Here are 217 remedies from the pen of one of the most influential American homeopaths. These are the transcribed lectures from Kent's classes at the Post-Graduate School of Homoeopathy in Philadelphia. Though not a primary Materia Medica, there are wonderful gems to be found within. Witness the distinctive picture of the sycotic miasm within the context of the remedy, Natrum sulphuricum. The colloquial presentation leads to an easier grasp of the information. The lectures are in simple form, explaining Kent's plan of study for each remedy. ...

Kent's lectures on the homeopathic materia medica are legendary. We can sense how this master of homeopathy captured the more than 200 remedies in this book as living creatures in his mind's eye: the resulting remedy pictures are of unequalled clarity & acuity. This was a breakthrough in the depiction of remedies, which had to that point only been described as lists of symptoms. As a teacher, Kent possessed an unmatched ability to express clinical matters in everyday language. This rare combination of science, art & straightforward descriptions comprises the inimitable charm of his lectures. His pupils were so enthusiastic that they took verbatim notes of his talks. Kent then edited these transcripts himself. This is how this masterpiece of the materia medica came to be handed down to us, & we can confidently say that it has lost none of its authenticity over the years. ...

Where like cures like Weleda also manufactures Homeopathic remedies. Developed by Dr Samuel Hahnemann in the 18th century, homeopathy also follows a holistic approach to good health stimulating the bodys natural ability to cure itself. Its guiding principle is to choose a remedy that would produce similar symptoms to those you wish to treat, i.e. like cures like. Each remedy is created by a series of dilution & shaking processes to produce a minimum potentised dose. Which strength? Over the counter homeopathic preparations are generally available in two strengths: 6c & 30c.6c Potencies In most self-help cases 6c should be selected. 6c is useful when conditions are mainly physical, such as coughs & colds, or when the condition progresses at a slow pace.30c Potencies 30c is selected when the condition is very active (acute) and/or when there is an emotional element to the condition, such as occasional sleeplessness. 30c remedies should be taken as a short course only, unless prescribed by a practitioner. Tablets shouldnt be touched & should be taken in a clean mouth. The remedies are intended for self-limiting, minor conditions. If they are required for long periods of time or for chronic conditions, professional advice should always be sought.
