{ } Although palm leaf plates & bowls are entirely natural & untreated, they can be used a few times, depending on what sort of food you serve on them. If you wash & dry immediately after use then you should be able to reuse them a few times. India has an abundance of Areca Palm trees, which shed leaves every 21 days or so. When the leaves fall to the ground, the farmers collect them
- some are composted or used for earthworm farming, but most of the leaves are burned. Some of the leaves are used to make plates & bowls & just about anything else you might serve food from. The trees are usually found in rural areas where the local people are often marginalised & have difficulty supporting themselves. Making palm plates is a good way for them to earn a living & help support their families. As the process is very hands on, for the amount of leaves that fall to ground in India every year, up to 300, 000 people could be employed making palm leaf plates to replace all the paper & plastic ones around the world. The palm leaf plates are certified compostable & food safe & each individual bowl or plate is unique
