The Designer It was in when Daniel Swarovski invented a machine for cutting & polishing crystal that the companies story began. His invention went on to inspire the world of fashion, jewellery & art over the next 120 years. The company became increasingly famous throughout the years & had collaborations with many designers such as Coco Chanel, Christian Dior & Balenciaga. In 1956 the same year as Daniels Swarovski’s death a collaboration between the company & Christian Dior resulted in new type of crystal jewellery where a thin layer of vaporised blue metal coating was applied to the crystals. The result was a rainbow effect & was named after the Northern Lights, Aurora Borealis. Swarovski’s product line has become more varied from miniatures, sculptures, figurines & collectibles to chandeliers with the company now in its fifth generation.
