This fragment showing two angels in the spandrels was originally placed above a figure of Saint Louis of Toulouse, now lost, on the principal tier (outermost on the right-hand side) of the high altarpiece of S. Croce, Florence. The panel below the spandrel, which is part of the main tier is still covered in its original fabric, and retains the original gilded moulding of the arched frame.
