The skyline is dominated by the Grote Kerk with the Vuilpoort, one of the town's water gates (demolished in 1864), beyond the windmill to the left. The church & the water gate are seen from another angle in ' The Maas at Dordrecht in a Storm' by Cuyp, also in the National Gallery's Collection. The work is datable to the early years of Raphael's Roman period. It is so damaged that it gives little idea of Raphael's original painting. The original cartoon for this painting (London, British Museum) may have been used later by Domenico Alfani (1479-80
