The story of the visit of the Athenian legislator Solon to King Croesus at Sardis is told by Herodotus & Plutarch. Croesus considered himself the happiest of men because of his immense wealth, but Solon disabused him. The figures (and perhaps the flowers) are by a follower of Jan Brueghel the Elder.
