Dutch Vessels In Calm Water Print

The 'tjalk' (Dutch passenger vessel) on the right has two Dutch flags. The boat in the right middle distance is a brigantine. This is probably an early work. Jan van Os is better known as a painter of fruit and flower still lifes, two of which are in the National Gallery's Collection: 'Fruit, Flowers and a Fish' and 'Fruit and Flowers in a Terracotta Vase'.
