We are really excited to introduce our new Verbena for 2013. From our own breeding programme, this delightful plant was discovered on our trials ground in 2009 and, immediately stood out for its strong and bushy habit, superb disease resistance and above all, its abundance of lavender blue flowers, with a white eye, which exude the most deliciously sweet fragrance. The star of our trials garden, and named after our trials manager, Brian Talman, who discovered it, it has performed really well through the last two summers, standing up to all weathers and providing a glorious show. It has a naturally bushy and upright habit and is perfect for container and window box planting, either planted alone, or mixed with other summer annuals – we love it planted alone for mass impact and lots of fragrance.
Gages, like plums, are easy to grow and care for and offer the sweetest tasting fruits - just delicious picked fresh from the tree and eaten there and then! They don't travel that well, so aren't readily available in the supermarkets - even more of a reason to grow them yourself! Excellent high yielding variety that produces long round, fleshy dark green quality pods, averaging 7in (18cm) in length. It tolerates indifferent weather conditions well and has good disease tolerance to Halo Blight, Anthracrose and Bean Common Mosaic Virus.
These Whitecurrants have a unique and tantalising flavour and deserve to be more widely grown than they are. Whitecurrant Blanka is an August-fruiting Dutch-bred variety reliably produces masses of long fruit trusses and is sweeter than most currants. Bred by Dr. Jan Danek, one of the world's foremost raspberry breeders, Polka is a very recent introduction to the raspberry world. The large and juicy berries have a mouth-wateringly sweet flavour and can produce up to 2.5kg of fruit per cane. Cropping from July through to October, the canes are virtually spine free and show good resistance to disease. Our specially selected canes are propagated from certified stock and grown on in well drained, sandy soil. These favourable growing conditions ensure raspberry canes which have a well developed root system and are ready to start producing a large number of new fruiting canes in the first full season after planting. Our Primocane varieties flower and fruit on new wood and tend to fruit for longer periods, from July through to October - some canes, on our trails ground, have still been fruiting in November! They are easy to grow, crop prolifically and taste superb - juicy and full of flavour.
