Messerschmitt ME110C-4 ZG52 (Luftwaffe France 1940) (1:72 scale)
- The Messerschmitt Bf 110 was a twin engine heavy fighter known to the Luftwaffer as the " Zerstorer" (Destroyer). It proved devastatingly effective during the early months of the Second World War, as the Luftwaffe swept through Pol&, Norway & France, where its high speed & concentrated firepower made it the ideal support aircraft for bombing raids into enemy territory.
The aircraft"s lack of agility in the air was its main weakness & this was exposed during the Battle of Britain when the " Zerstorer" pilots come up against the well organised Spitfires & Hurricanes of the RAF. They were easy prey for the British fighters & suffered such heavy losses that some BG110 units were withdrawn from the battle & redeployed as night fighters
- a role which was far better suited to the aircraft.
The aircraft modelled is a Bf 110C-4 from Zerstoregruppe (ZG) 52 operating from Charleville, France during the height of the Battle of Britain in 1940.
