The Hudson Motor Car Company started out with a bang. In its first year of production, more than 4, 000 cars were sold, marking one of the biggest first-year sales records ever. That was in 1910. A year before, a group of men organized the company, including Joseph L. Hudson, who was bankrolling the endeavour.
As the new kid on the block, Hudson Motor Cars soon earned a formidable reputation, for the company’s engineers were responsible for several “firsts” in the automotive world. The self-starter, dual brakes, dashboard oil pressure & generator warning lights & the first balanced crankshaft are some of the more notable achievements.
By 1936, Hudson cars featured a few innovations of their own. This was the year the radical safety control/rhythmic ride suspension was introduced. The front axle was suspended from two steel bars, as well as from leaf springs. This allowed the use of longer, softer leaf springs, preventing the car from going off course from bumps & braking. This year too, the Hudson Eight was considerably larger inside than its competitors & had engines that were quite powerful for the time. The custom Hudson Eight with the 120-inch wheelbase came in several body styles, including a two-door convertible coupe. Perhaps the most beautiful of all bodies, the convertible shows off the streamlined styling, which was accentuated by the Art Deco-inspired waterfall grille. With its all-steel construction, the custom Hudson Eight combined both form & function to produce one of the most attractive automobiles of all time.
Your sensational replica of this classic Hudson is painted by hand in a spectacular bright red. Back in the "30s, many luxury car buyers traditionally had their vehicles personalized with custom paint jobs not offered at the factory. These personalized paint schemes reflected the owner"s tastes & were frequently used to make the car stand out at auto shows. This particular paint scheme obviously reflects an appreciation for that vintage look.
