Apollo 11 Astronaut (2011 Version) (1:6 scale)
- The mission plan of Apollo 11 was to land two men on the lunar surface & return them safely to Earth. The launch took place at Kennedy Space Centre Launch Complex 39A on July 16, 1969, at 08:32 a.m. EST. The spacecraft carried a crew of three: Mission Commander Neil Armstrong, Command Module Pilot Michael Collins, & Lunar Module Pilot Edwin E. Aldrin Jr. The mission evaluation concluded that all mission tasks were completed satisfactorily. The outer layers of the spacesuit consisted of a material called Nomex, two layers of a Teflon-coated Beta cloth, followed by layers of neoprene-coated nylon, layers of Beta/ Kapton spacer laminate, & an outer layer of Teflon-coated Beta cloth. During the EVA periods, a liquid-cooling garment was worn closest to the skin. The helmet was a clear bubble designed to attach to the spacesuit neck ring. The gloves were built of an outer shell of Chromel-R fabric & thermal insulation to provide protection when handling extremely hot & cold objects. The blue fingertips were made from silicone rubber to provide more sensitivity.
The DR73146 Apollo Astronaut is a very close likeness to Neil Armstrong, although it appears for licensing reasons Dragon are not able to use Neil Armstrong’s name on the packaging or images.
