All you do is unscrew the lid at the top, add 18 pints of warm water, the sachet of yeast provided & 20 pints of glorious pale ale is ready to enjoy in just 10 days. Voila – or rather Cheers! Make sure that the cap is not removed during the brewing process Where possible, try not to move your box before drinking. &, don’t overfill your box! Remember, less is more. Everything else is provided.. Inside the box is the wheat & hops. Resting on top of the cap is the yeast sachet. & on top of the box is a handy funnel so that you can keep your box dry. So how Does it Work? The sugar & hops begin a process called fermentation once yeast is added. The yeast acts as an enzyme & helps convert the sugars into ethanol (alcohol) & carbon dioxide. For the budding scientists amongst us, the equation is below - Sugar -> Ethanol + Carbon Dioxide. The carbon dioxide bubbles out of the liquid into the air & is released through the valve at the top. Fermentation is a complicated process, which can be disrupted by a number of things such as temperature change or contamination. Imagine your ale as a delicate rose, just waiting to blossom – any contamination may damage the taste of your wonderful drink before it has had a chance to develop properly. It really is essential to keep everything clean (including the valve on the top) to stop any nasty bacteria getting inside the box, which might spoil the great taste of Victor’s.
