This beautifully illustrated, colourful game can be played in different ways while learning about animals from around the world. The game consists of four game boards, each representing a different environment: desert, jungle, ocean & polar lands. Each board shows 9 different animals that live in that environment, & there are 36 cards representing each of the animals. The game involves each player choosing a board, & the 36 animal cards are placed face down in a pile on the table. The first player picks the card from the top of the pile & names the animal on it; all players then check their boards to see if they can make a match. If a player has that animal on their board, they shout out the animal's name & place the card on their board. The winner is the first person to complete their board. The game can also be played as a memory game; the cards are spread out face down on the table, & players take it in turn to turn over a card. If it matches an animal on their board, they take the card, & if not, it is returned to the table face down. Again the winner is the first to complete their board. You can increase the play value of the game by asking children to sort the animals into the correct habitat groups without using the boards. Obviously there is plenty to talk about while playing this game: you can ask your child to find things, such as an animal that flies, an animal with tusks, an animal with antlers. You can ask them what noises some of the animals make, or talk about how they move. ...
