Polylactide (PLA) filament spools are used in the process of 3D printing. It is available in a wide range of colours & translucencies & has a glossy, attractive feel that makes it absolutely ideal for printing 3D objects for display or for household goods. It is derived from processing a number of plant products including corn, potatoes & sugar-beet. It is often considered a more ‘eco-friendly print material thanks to its ability to bio-degrade. PLA is capable of being printed at higher maximum speeds, maintaining lower layer heights & sharper corners. It has a low chance of warping & is ideal for home use, hobbyists & schools. It is strong, rigid & can be worked, sanded & machined. When properly cooled
- it has a low risk of cracking or warping & increased flow can lead to strong bonds between layers further improving the strength of the printed object. When using PLA in the process of 3D printing it is essential that you are located in a well ventilated environment. Please ensure that you store your PLA spool in a dry environment to prevent it from being exposed to moisture & humidity as this can negatively affect the 3D printing process. We advise that you do not store printed items in overly warm environments as this can damage the finished product.
