The Mountfield 1538H has a hydrostatic (automatic) transmission which is very easy to use. To move forward simply push the forward pedal down and the more firmly you press the faster the mower will go. For reverse just press the reverse pedal, you can change from forward to reverse instantly so manoeuvrability on the machine is excellent. The Mountfield 1538H is driven by a Mountfield 7750 OHV (Over Head Value) series engine which is used on the majority of Mountfield lawn & garden tractors. This petrol engine has proved both reliable  & easy starting for years. The 1538 H has a 98 cm / 38" cutting deck which uses twin un-timed cutting blades for the best finish. Un timed blades allow the lawn tractor to mow over rough ground without any overlap. The cutter deck is also fitted with 2 anti-scalp wheels which help it to ‘float’ over the ground providing the optimum cut & finish to the grass. The heights of cut are adjusted through 7 positions from 25 – 80 mm. Grass trimmings are collected to the rear of the tractor into a large 240 litre collection box. This can then be emptied from the driving seat using a simple lever.
