Hermitage is synonymous with fine Syrah to such a degree that in Australia Syrah was once known by that very name. The Rhônes Cave de Tain is "a high quality co-op, offering excellent Hermitage. Top cuvees such as the Gambert de Loche are among the best within their appellation" (Hugh Johnson). This fine wine displays a profound colour with garnet tints, & has a complex nose of candied black fruits, coffee liqueur, toasty notes developing to black chocolate, liquorice & wild Mediterranean herbs. Rich, generous & elegant, the structure is firm, finishing on waves of black fruits, liquorice, mint & spices. Typical of the lovely 2003 vintage, its exceptionally concentrated. Serve with roast red meats or hearty casseroles.
