Named after a local family who date back to the Knights Templar, this wine comes from the little medieval town of Horta de Sant Joan in the southernmost corner of Cataluña. Josep Gurrera Descarrega, who has 20 years winemaking experience in the region, combined Tempranillo from 35 year old vines with a portion of Cabernet Sauvignon, plus a little each of raspberry rich Garnacha & deep, spicy Cariñena
- the latter harvested from 60 year old vines in arid Tarragona. Two years in American oak casks have mellowed the wine & lent a considerable layer of toasty spice & vanilla. Soft & silky enough for savouring on its own, this venerable Gran Reserva shows particularly well with steak with a morel sauce, lamb, or a selection of tapas.
