Anyone who is active outside in damp or wet conditions will benefit from breathable waterproof footwear. Whether you’re a mountaineer, cyclist, dog walker, or you work outside as a farmer or surveyor, you will need good waterproof footwear to keep you dry. When you’re active & wearing footwear, your socks draw moisture away from your feet, keeping them dry. However, if your footwear absorbs water & ‘wets out’ its breathability will be reduced. Moisture vapour will not be able to escape through the material, so your feet will feel clammy & wet.

Nikwax Fabric & Leather Proof has been specifically designed & optimised for fabric & leather combination footwear, providing Durable Water Repellency (DWR), which prevents water absorption, whilst maintaining breathability, keeping your feet dry & comfortable. It provides maximum waterproofing with minimal change to look & feel of nylon & leather footwear. You don’t need to wait for your footwear to dry before application.

* Never use liquid detergents or fabric softeners. Wash the waterproof combination footwear in Nikwax Footwear Cleaning Gel non-detergent soap. Detergents can leave water-attractive residues that will not rinse out.

How to use Nikwax Fabric & Leather Proof:

Your footwear could be soaking up water just because they are dirty. First, try cleaning them with Nikwax Footwear Cleaning Gel, & if they are fairly new, or recently re-waterproofed with Nikwax Fabric & Leather Proof, the Durable Water Repellency (DWR) will be revitalised just from cleaning.

Once footwear have been thoroughly used, you will need to add DWR using Nikwax Fabric & Leather Proof:

• Hand Wash

For best results always clean footwear first with Nikwax Footwear Cleaning Gel. No need to dry footwear before waterproofing. Shake well before use. Follow care label instructions.

1. Brush off dirt with a damp cloth & clean using Nikwax Footwear Cleaning Gel.
2. Shake well before use. Press sponge applicator to break seal.
3. Apply generously to wet footwear; Spray-On (from a distance of 5cm / 2in ) or Sponge-On.*
4. After 2 minutes, remove surplus with a cloth & allow to dry before use.
5. Always allow footwear to dry naturally:

• Leave footwear to dry at room temperature. 
• Paper can be stuffed into the toes to absorb excess moisture, this should be replaced when wet.
• Keep footwear away from fires & radiators, drying too quickly can crack leather & cause bonded soles to peel.

Nikwax Fabric & Leather Proof leaves a flexible water repellent treatment on individual fibres of fabric & leather. This allows moisture vapour to pass through, maintaining breathability & keeping your feet dry.
To maintain waterproofing always clean with Nikwax Footwear Cleaning Gel. Do not use detergents.

* Light/coloured fabric and/or leather may darken after treatment. Test on a hidden area first.

Using the right cleaning product is as important as using the right waterproofing product. Conventional detergents leave behind a thin water-absorbent film on materials, which masks their Durable Water Repellency (DWR). Always clean your waterproof footwear with Nikwax Footwear Cleaning Gel. Remember that dirt itself works against DWR, so regular cleaning will enhance performance.
