Zoom through the skies over Epping on these Harvard lessons from North Weald Airfield! Experience war bird flying at its best with this full range of flight durations for Harvard flights out of historic North Weald. Whether you know it as the Harvard or the North American T-6 there's no denying this plane is a legend. For many many years the Harvard was used as the main second-level trainer plane by air forces around the world. Being a low-wing monoplane it would have been quite a big step up from flying biplanes like the Tiger Moth. Aspiring fighter pilots couldn't wait to get their hands on the Harvard. Way more powerful than anything they would have previously flown during training so far it was a real baptism of fire for these young pilots to see if they could handle the Harvard. Those who did often went on to become bonafide fighter pilots now it's your turn to see if you can earn your stripes! The Harvard you will be flying in for your lesson at North Weald Airfield was built in 1943. After various missions the plane was sent as part of a 10-plane consignment to serve with the Haitian Air Force. It's believed this particular Harvard is the only one to have survived when she was returned to the USA in 1982. Eventually arriving in the UK in 1989 the Harvard was re-registered as G-DDMV. She was fully restored by the current owners when she was purchased in 2015 & this delightful plane now flies resplendent in her yellow training colours over the skies of Epping & north Essex. We are offering 15 20 40 & 60-minute Harvard flights out of North Weald. Each one gives you enough time to savour the sheer energy acceleration & power of this impressive plane. & being a lesson you'll even time to have a go at the controls so you will actually be flying this lovely Harvard yourself for a short while. Make sure you wave to your friends & family waiting back at the North Weald base as you soar past in your Harvard! ...

Experience the wonderful world of warbirds with these Harvard flights at White Waltham! This is your chance to take to the skies above Berkshire in a superlative example of these much-loved training aircraft from another era. Whether you know it as the American T6 Texan or the Harvard (as it was called in the Commonwealth) this plane is pretty legendary. It served as a great war time trainer for young pilots who then went on to fly fighter planes on daring missions. It's an iconic warbird & anyone who's into their classic aviation will want to fly in one. No need to cross the Atlantic to fly in a Harvard though as this one is based in Berkshire. Operating out of White Waltham Airfield near Maidenhead is certainly befitting as the airfield was used as an Air Transport Auxiliary base during WW2 whence aircraft were dispatched & delivered to the forces. Today White Waltham is home to one of the largest flying clubs in the country. With excellent on-site facilities including a club... ...

This Harvard is a genuine World War Two veteran. Having been built in Dallas Texas in 1942 this Texan trainer first served with the US Air Force. This time she was sent to serve with the Portuguese Air Force until 1978 when she was decommissioned. By 1979 this well-travelled plane had reached British shores where she was re-registered as G-TSIX (nice choice!). Rotary fun for the pair of you on a helicopter flight for two! As you take a lesson your invitee rides in the helicopter as a passenger. & with the extra touch of a box of chocolates & a flute of bubbles included it all makes for one romantic helicopter ride for the two of you. These 30 minute experience helicopter flights for two are operated out of Elstree Aerodrome using a Robinson R44. It's a rather nifty four seater machine so there's plenty of room for both of you & the all-important instructor too which is quite convenient & pretty essential! So first things first. On arrival you'll meet your helicopter pilot host for this ride for two. This is a pretty buzzing aerodrome just on the cusp of the London skyline so there's aways a fair amount of take offs & landings going on. After a safety & technical ground briefing the two of you will then head out to the helipad to meet your R44. These are one of the world's most popular helis with a reputation for being robust reliable & easy to fly. If you've never flown in any type of helicopter before the two of you will be pretty excited pre-take off as final checks are done the rotor blades start turning. As soon as you get airborne you get an immediate visual on just where you are in the country. There's the busy M1 motorway. & just below you check out Hilford Park Reservoir. As your chopper turns you might find yourselves heading over the likes of the Warner Bros & Elstree studios. Then before you know it there's that London town on the horizon! Whilst your passenger is enjoying the local sights from your elevated look-out of the helicopter you're not just here for the ride
- you're here to fly. & this is the moment you will be handed the controls. Savour the moment you turned from helicopter rider to helicopter driver
- it's going to feel special that's for sure. Which is also why when you get back down on the ground there'll be a little presentation & a toast to the two of you. Time to crack open the box of chocs & sip the (non-alcoholic) fizz as a celebration of the day you both went on a helicopter flight for two from Elstree Aerodrome.

Product Description

Join Eddie & Veronica at The Raptor Centre for a fabulous experience in falconry at Groombridge Place! Meet some of the resident birds of prey at the long-established Raptor Centre & head off on a gentle Hawk hike or Owl ramble. These are relaxed & rather lovely bird of prey experiences at a leisurely pace in a stunning setting.

Groombridge Place is a large country estate near Tunbridge Wells. The manor house itself is a private residence but the formal gardens tea rooms vineyard & The Raptor Centre (which was founded by Eddie in 1977 & moved to Groombridge in 2002) attract thousands of visitors to this corner of Kent every year.

Since then Eddie has been joined by Veronica & together they host falconry displays twice a day up to six days a week in the summer season. The birds who have all been trained by Eddie & Veronica love nothing better than to fly free
- & for spectators it’s a joy to witness these birds of prey at Groombridge Place.

What we love about these sessions is that they are held outside these public show times & offer a much more personal & bespoke approach. With a maximum of just two participants this is your chance to really get up close to the birds of prey of The Raptor Centre. Marvel at the intricate patterns in their plumage gaze right into those intense eyes admire those sharp talons & check out that beautiful beak!

Your falconer host may begin your walk from The Raptor Centre heading out across the fields although sometimes you’ll be driven to where your Hawk hike or ramble with the Owls will take place. Either way it’s away from the day visitors to Groombridge & a place where the birds feel totally at ease. The pace is relaxed as you stroll along the country trails.

During your walk you’ll be encouraged to ask questions & you’ll learn all about the work that The Raptor Centre undertakes both in front of the public & behind the scenes. From the fact that Eddie & Veronica hatch & rear over a 100 raptor chicks a year to how they work with the RSPB RSPCA & the general public to offer a sanctuary to birds of prey in need. & no-one can deny it lovely Groombridge Place with its falconry at The Raptor Centre is the sort of haven we’d all like to live in!
