The Ford Escort Mk 2 rally car needs no introduction. If you love your rallying you'll know this was the most successful rally car ever when it dominated the motorsport during the 1970s. We are really quite excited to say this is your chance to drive this mythical rally car for yourself on a loose gravel stage in Essex! The iconic RS1800 won every single consecutive RAC rally from 1975 to 1979 & of course pulled off the WRC one-two in 1979 with Bjorn Waldegard on top of the podium Hannu Mikkola as runner up & Ari Vatanen fifth. Totally epic. This incredible rally car held its own right up until the fledgling years of the four wheel drive generation of rally cars headed by the Audi Quattro in the early 80s. Even today nothing beats the sound & sight of a Mk II Escort hammering it around a rally course. You can hear the breathy engine-wail way before you can see it & when the Escort does come into view it's invariably at a near-impossible sideways angle. That seminal Cosworth engine was without doubt most at home in the Welsh forest wining endless rally stages. & who could forget those classic Rothmans & Castrol liveries & those extra-large wheel arches? Not even the fact that front vision was pretty useless through the front windscreen (which is why you often saw drivers & co-drivers peering through the side windows!) could detract from the sheer charm. We are offering excellent value 'have a go' sessions for you to give this fun target sport a try. An indoor archery centre like this one in Northampton is a rare thing. It means you can go & shoot some arrows during the day at weekends & perhaps more importantly in the evenings to fit in with our ever-increasingly busy lifestyles. Paul Hopkins is the man behind this successful Northamptonshire archery centre. Open since 2018 the passionate archer has created a superb set-up. It's bright & airy & has been designed with a line of archery lanes each one with a classic round target to shoot at. You'll be welcomed by Paul who'll explain what'll happen on your taster archery experience. You'll then be kitted out with a modern recurve bow (they're the same sort of bows as used in the Olympics) before heading to your lane on the range. Once in position how to lift & hold your bow will be explained to you along with how to load (or 'knock' in archery speak) your arrows. Stance sorted arrow knocked & you're ready to release. Paul will give you tips on how best to take aim & before you know it you'll be getting those arrows flying straight & true.
