Thunderbirds are most definitely go when you pilot this F16 flight simulator! The fighting falcon is one of the most famous fighter jets ever & over 4500 of them have been soaring through the world's skies in defence roles since the first F16 flew in 1974. This experience gives you the chance to get a feel of what being an ace fighter pilot is all about. On arrival at the rather innocuous industrial building just outside Horbury just west of Wakefield you'd never know that inside daily aerial battles are being fought in the F16 flight sim taking on missions & challenges in every corner of the globe
- all without leaving the ground. The General Dynamics (now Lockheed Martin) F16 Block 52 is a formidable force in the air & this fixed-base simulator is as realistic as it gets. & believe us it starts as it means to go on when you are strapped into the mock ejector seat that is then slid forwards into position into the centre of the cockpit. & to say it's snug is an understatement. You really are at the sharp end in the nose of the F16 & it's just you up there in the fully enclosed cockpit. It's time to concentrate & get down to business… The first thing you'll notice about the viper (as it's known in USAF fighter pilot circles) is that is has a side-mounted rather than centrally located control stick. This sim is a faithful replica & has an actual F16 control stick rudder pedals & throttle. There's even a fully working head up display (HUD) just like you see in those great dog fight sequences in the films. As for your flight mission well that's up to you. Maybe you've always fancied trying out the tricky manoeuvre of air-to-air refuelling (AAR) where you fly to the boom of a aircraft tanker to take on more fuel mid-flight? Or how about practicing landing your F16 on aircraft carriers as they hold station in a choppy ocean miles & miles off shore? If you think no simulator experience would be complete without a little bit of aerial combat with an enemy aircraft in your airspace that can easily be arranged as can a air to ground bombing raid. Whichever challenges or missions you choose to tackle as pilot of this F16 flight simulator you are sure to feel totally & utterly immersed in the whole thing. Inside that compact fighter jet cockpit it's intense. You need to keep your wits about you & keep & eye on what's happening all around you on that 180 degree FIV HD projector system to make sure you're always poised to take on anything or anyone that could compromise you & your viper...

Sign up for this half day aircrew experience & try out the Tornado flight simulator too! Immerse yourself in the world of RAF fighter jets with this utterly fascinating visit to the unique Tornado Heritage Centre near Chester. The Panavia Tornado was a German-Anglo-Italian collaboration & although production of these twin-engine combat aircraft ceased in 1998 there are still dozens in active service in air forces around the world including our Royal Air Force. The ' Tonka' as it's affectionately known in the UK is pretty much a living legend & this experience will see you meeting an ex-RAF Tornado & it's dedicated custodians. The Tornado Heritage Centre team has completely renovated & rebuilt their Panavia F3 Tornado. ZE966 serial code VT was demobbed in 2007 having first flown in 1990. This particular RAF Tornado saw active service flying missions during the Gulf War. If you care to Google Tornado ZE966 you'll see some wonderful air-to-air photos of the very aircraft you'll be sitting in today which is pretty cool by all accounts! So yes this is a proper Panavia Tornado. & to make your visit as authentic as possible the heritage centre facility has been set up just like a typical RAF squadron building. What's more you'll be wearing genuine RAF flying 'suits' (ever wondered what fighter pilots & navigators wear & why?) & you'll be hearing all about the history of the Tornado as you see the flight briefing & planning rooms. As well looking around the Heritage Centre facility you'll also get plenty of time with the star of the show. A cockpit visit of this ex-RAF Tornado is included
- & it's amazing to have the opportunity to sit in the cockpit of this iconic aircraft. As if all that wasn't enough you'll also get time on the Tornado flight simulator. These were used to practice SOPS (that's Standard Operating Procedures in aviator speak) & simulate conditions inside the Tornado cockpit. Once again it's properly hands-on & totally engaging. It's not every day you get the chance to step up to the task of being in a Tornado Procedures Trainer simulator
- especially when it's the only working example of an F3 simulator in existence. Nor is it a regular thing for non-RAF types to be sitting in the cockpit of an actual Panavia RAF Tornado like ZE966. No wonder these Tornado experiences are so popular
- & they operate on a limited number of days during the year too so make sure you get booked up early!

Product Description

Try the latest in stealth fighter technology when you fly the F35 simulator! This centre in Newcastle Upon Tyne is the only place in the UK where you can get your hands on the controls of the Lockheed Martin F-35 military jet the RAF's anticipated replacement for the awesome Harrier in years to come.

Known as the Lightning II the world's most expensive Joint Strike Fighter plane has been a long time coming. A project that dates right back to 1996 the maiden flight for the F-35 was in December 2006 & with a plethora of adjustments tweaks & re-designs the first aircraft was delivered in July 2011 but Lockheed Martin's jewel in the aviation crown was not fully operational with a squadron until July 2015.

So you'll be one of the first civilian flyers to get the insider lowdown on this incredible jet. Inside the real thing the cockpit is more like an IT laboratory with a full panel width glass touchscreen replacing all those dials gauges & knobs you might expect to see in an aeroplane & it's just like this in the simulated version of the F-35 too.

Indeed the F35 is a plane that boasts fully integrated avionics & stealth technology such as its low-radar presence shape & design features right down to a special finer-mat coating that renders the Lightning II pretty impossible to detect. Nice one Lockheed Martin!

We think you'll be as impressed with this simulator as you will be with the capabilities of the plane. In reality there are three different versions of the F35 the standard one the one that does vertical take offs (thanks to a lift system by Rolls Royce in a Harrier style) & the one that is made for aircraft carriers. On this experience you'll be able to test those Pratt & Whitney power plants to the max as you try a little super cruise at a mind-bendingly fast Mach 1.2 & generally have a whale of a time playing in the skies.

If you want to mix your F35 simulator experience up a bit you can combine three very different aircraft together for the ultimate session in simulated flight as you take on not only the formidable F35 Lightning II but also the workhouse of the skies; the Boeing 737 & the iconic legend that is the Spitfire all in simulated form without ever leaving the ground of course!
