Join in with these very special Spitfire flights from Headcorn Aerodrome in Kent by flying right up there beside that glorious fighter plane! Everyone loves the Spitfire. For many it's the symbol of the Second World War & a poignant reminder of those who gave their lives for us. These experiences focus on the Battle of Britain over the skies of Kent. Both the plane you'll be flying in & the Spitfire will be departing from Headcorn airfield. Formerly RAF Lashenden this was where hundreds of missions were flown by Spitfires & Mustangs at the height of the war between 1942 & 1943. Even today the vestiges of the WW2 squadrons based here remain & there's a fascinating wartime museum. It's hugely significant that Headcorn is the base for these Spitfire flight experiences. You will be boarding a de Havilland Devon for your flight. These were the people carriers of the sky in the post-war years with the Devon ferrying military personnel whilst civilian passengers flew in services operated by the Dove which was the commercial version of this hugely popular aircraft. Flying in it today is quite a sensation - made all the more thrilling when you're escorted in the air by a Spitfire! Once airborne out of Headcorn you'll head towards the Kent coast. With the Spitfire joining you the flight path takes you to the cliffs at Capel-le-Ferne. This is where the hugely emotive & provocative stone-carved Battle of Britain Memorial stands with its contemplative airman looking out to sea. It really is remarkable to look down on this from air especially with the Spitfire flying along with you. Don't be surprised if you feel really emotional at this point… Those on the extended 40-minute flights will continue to track the Spitfire towards the White Cliffs of Dover & South Foreland Lighthouse whilst the 30-minute flight turns back at this point. & as you head back to base there's time to reflect on the day you got to fly at the same time as these historic Spitfire flights out of Headcorn literally side-by-side with this wonderful aircraft. Just magical. ...
Go flyboarding in Chepstow at the fabulous National Diving & Activity Centre! This is a great place to have a go at the crazy sport of flyboarding. If you've always wondered what it'd be like to 'walk on water' this is as close as it gets - & it's as totally exhilarating as you'd imagine! Flyboarding for the uninitiated is you strapped onto a small board that resembles a skateboard. A hose is attached to a jetski that's out on the water next to you. This provides the power to get the water propelled from outlets on the board - & that's what gets you 'flying' in the air. First time flyboarders often describe it as Iron Man meets dolphin! It'll take a few goes for you to feel the balance & get used to being forced up & out of the water by the jet sprays so there's no avoiding getting wet for this experience. Before heading out you will have an on-land briefing so you know what to expect. Once out on the water you'll work through the three separate stages of getting up & out of the water. What's great about this Chepstow experience is that all flyboarding lessons are taught on a one-to-one basis so you can really progress quickly with your instructor right next you on the jetski to encourage & coach you. Before long you'll be getting high enough in the air to wave to your friends & family watching from The View cafe's terrace. & if you really take to it like a duck to water ('scuse the pun!) you might be up for trying a few dolphin dives - the signature move of flyboarders. We have to say the azure blue waters of this former quarry make for a unique place to try flyboarding in Chepstow & it boasts not only great facilities for visitors but also a friendly an enthusiastic welcome from the flyboard team. All the gear is provided for you including a buoyancy aid so you don't even have to be a brilliant swimmer for these thrilling flyboard experiences. ...
Try a new way to ride the waves in Cornwall when you go flyboarding in Newquay! These 30-minute sessions are totally geared towards to beginners to get you up & flying out of the water like a pro flyboarder.
This Cornish flyboarding set up operates out of Newquay Harbour. The location here is superb with stunning bays & beaches all around. You’ll be heading out to a secluded part of the harbour for your experience ready to ride the flyboard above those azure blue waters we love in Cornwall.
The way it works it pretty straightforward. The flyboard is attached to a big hose which itself is attached to a jetski out on the water with you. This provides the water at pressure up & into the flyboard to then be sprayed out by the board’s jets. It’s these directional jets of water that lift you out of the water.
You start in the water wearing watersport boots that are strapped into bindings on the board. As soon as the water flow is strong enough you’ll be lifted like magic out of the water & vertically into the air. It’s the maddest feeling ever. & whilst you’re being elevated out of the water you’re sure to be flapping your arms around a bit as you try & get your balance.
It might take a few launches to get you airborne but this Newquay team reckons most flyboarders get up out of the water within about 10-minutes. After that it’s all about practice & getting the feel of moving in the air with the water jettisoning under your feet. If you get the knack of it straight away you might even be up for trying a spin or even a dolphin dive move. Nail that on your first go at flyboarding in Newquay & you’ll be hailed a hero!
All flyboarding experiences in Cornwall are offered with one-to-one tuition so you’ll have the undivided attention of your instructor whilst you’re out on the flyboard. All the gear you need to get started is included too so all that remains for you to do is get on down to Newquay & prepare yourself to fly! ...
