About the Plywood Coffee table
The Plywood Coffee table is a traditional design that yet manages to stay modern and comtemporary as it can be combined with any piece of furniture style. The table is round like a saucer, and just like a saucer the edges are turned upwards. This stops things falling off the table, and it also hinders any spillage to drop onto the carpet. Plywood Coffee Table is a prime example of how the Eames have incorporated everyday usability in their design. History of the Plywood Coffee table
Designed in 1946, the Plywood Coffee table is one of several works that was born from Charles and Ray Eames’ experimentation with plywood during the 1940’s.
Through applying heat and pressure on wood veneer, and then gluing them together, strong, softly rounded and delicate shapes in wood. Several of the couple’s chairs stemming from this time were also created with this technique. Dimensions Height 40 cm Diameter 87 cm
