About the PK61 Coffee table Although Poul Kjærholm is mainly known for his chairs & sofas, he also designed various tables. The PK61 coffee table has a minimalistic design but is still very different & stands out because of its interesting details. The table legs are not positioned in the coners but slightly to the side. This gives an interesting impression of asymmetry although the table is completely symmetrical. The PK61 coffee table is not attached to the base with screws but simply rests on the frame construction. Goes well with the designer's PK31 sofa. History of the PK61 Coffee table Poul Kjærholm had a philosophy about using gravity to hold furniture pieces together which this table is a perfect example of. It also shows that a true minimalist only uses screws were absolutely necessary. The table was designed in 1956 & is as modern today as back then. About the PK63A Coffee Table The PK63A Coffee Table's frame is made from steel, & the table top was originally made out of marble. Steel was, to Kjærholm, as much a natural material as stone, leather or wood. This is evident in how he integrated the different materials, & it is particularly noticeable in this piece of furniture. The PK63A does not need to be used as a coffee table, it might as well serve as a side table, storage area TV or stereo bench. This is a testament to how minimalistic design can be incorporated to suit any purpose. For other designs by Poul Kjærholm, click here. History of the PK63A Coffee Table Created in 1968, the PK63A Coffee Table is one of Poul Kjærholm’s timeless furniture pieces. The characteristic feature of the table is above all the austerity of the design, as it is purged of all unnecessary detail. This, in conjunction with the choice of premium materials, faithfully reflects Kjærholm’s design philosophy. Dimensions Height 31 cm Width 120 cm Depth 60 cm ...

About the Plywood Coffee table The Plywood Coffee table is a traditional design that yet manages to stay modern & comtemporary as it can be combined with any piece of furniture style. The table is round like a saucer, & just like a saucer the edges are turned upwards. This stops things falling off the table, & it also hinders any spillage to drop onto the carpet. Plywood Coffee Table is a prime example of how the Eames have incorporated everyday usability in their design. For other plywood designs from Charles Eames, see LCM lounge chair, DCW dining chair & LCW lounge chair. History of the Plywood Coffee table Designed in 1946, the Plywood Coffee table is one of several works that was born from Charles & Ray Eames’ experimentation with plywood during the 1940’s. Through applying heat & pressure on wood veneer, & then gluing them together, strong, softly rounded & delicate shapes in wood. Several of the couple’s chairs stemming from this time were also created with this technique. Dimensions Height 40 cm Diameter 87 cm ...
