About the Barcelona Coffee Table The Barcelona Coffee Table was one of the first tables ever to be constructed with a glass table top, & it has had as much influence on 20th century furniture design as the rest of its Barcelona series. The table was drawn for Villa Tugendhat in Brno, a project where Mies van der Rohe was also the architect. The villa was created based on the principle that less is more. The Barcelona Coffee Table is a great testament to this, as it clearly eminates a minimalistc sense of grandeur. This table goes very well with other pieces from the Barcelona collection. History of the Barcelona Coffee Table All the furniture pieces that were created by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe for the Barcelona series have become world famous classics, & this coffee table is no exception. From the beginning it was not part of the series, which was made for the World Exposition in Barcelona 1929. The table was instead created the following year, but was still given the name Barcelona as it still follows the minimalistic, yet royal style of the series.
