You can now grow deliciously sweet peaches here in the UK! ' Red Haven' is an August fruiting variety with lusciously sweet yellow flesh that melts in your mouth when you bite in to it. Its Self-Fertile, like the majority of our fruit varieties, so will crop reliably for you & needs no other tree to make fruit. The gorgeous, sweetly fragrant pink blossom looks a picture in springtime, but ideally needs a little protection from late frosts initially plant your tree against a south facing wall & cover with fleece when in flower in the spring - this is not to protect the tree itself, which is totally winter hardy, but to give the blossom maximum protection so it has the best chance of full pollination. The warmer the position of your tree when its in blossom, the busier the bees & other pollinating insects will be making you lovely peaches! ' Red Haven' also makes a lovely potted specimen for your patio, which will allow you to position it favourably when necessary. You can then really make the most of the fragrant spring blossom & perfect summer fruits. Supplied as an established tree, 150cm (5ft) tall grown on an M9 dwarfing rootstock in a 24cm pot, growing to a height & spread of 2.5m (8ft). Care Plant fruit trees at their original soil level, firm them into the ground & water well. Fruit trees grown in pots will need watering & feeding more regularly than those planted in the ground. To avoid the roots becoming pot-bound, repot every year or alternate years after leaves have fallen in autumn. Once in its final pot, a plant can be root-pruned every other year with 30 per cent of the compost refreshed. In between, replace the top couple of inches of compost. A good mulch will help to retain water & therefore reduce the need to water as frequently & will prevent weeds from competing. Your pear tree will not need drastic pruning; just remove any crossing or damaged branches. Any lower branches can be removed if you want to?achieve a clear trunk. Otherwise, in subsequent seasons cut back any strongly growing branches by one third to promote the formation of fruiting spurs. Contents 1 x Tree ...
