With added Lime, it is p H balanced to give the optimum growing conditions & with starter fertiliser & a wetting agent, to ensure even water distribution in pots & container, it will get your plants off to a head-start. On top of that it contains a 6 month controlled release fertiliser
- meaning whatever you grow will get a slow & steady stream of nutrients for 6 months. Care Give your plugs a little attention on arrival
- unpack them immediately, & either mist them or stand them in water for an hour
- they may be slightly dry or yellow after being in a dark box in the post, but they’ll quickly recover. If you can’t do this, they can sit in Mini Greenhouses for a week if upright & not too wet. We recommend that you leave them to settle for a day somewhere warm, light & airy such as a windowsill or greenhouse. When you're ready to pot on, use a good quality, multi-purpose compost, & fill 3-4in pots (7-10cm). Make a hole in the compost with a dibber or your finger, then holding each plug by its root ball, place it into the hole & gently firm the compost around it. For great results, we recommend using our Windowsill Planters or 9cm pots in Shuttle Trays. Give your plants a good water initially, then only when the top compost starts to dry as they don’t like to be left in standing water. Grow on either on a bright windowsill or a greenhouse for 3-4 weeks before potting up into containers or into flower beds. If planting directly into flower beds when all risk of frost has passed, prepare the ground well, removing weeds & digging in some compost or well-rotted manure if your soil is not already rich. Plant approx. 30cm (1ft) apart to allow them room to grow. Feed using a high-potash feed such as Blooming Fast Superior Soluble Fertiliser for Flowers & Fruits, to encourage flowering. ‘ Charlotte’ is the top variety of ‘new potato’ in the UK. Delicious boiled & medium sized. Plant between February & May for harvesting from July to October.‘ Swift’ is a good all-round cooking potato, although not for mashing, very fast growing from planting to harvest. Plant between January & May for harvesting from July to October.‘ Desiree’ is a maincrop potato, great for chips, roasting, mashing & baking. Plant between March & May for harvesting from July to October. Organic Potato Fertiliser
- 1KGSlow release Organic Potato Fertiliser has been specifically formulated to provide your crop of potatoes with everything they need to produce a bountiful harvest. In particular it has been developed to promote the sustained healthy growth, making sure you get a good crop, whatever soil you have. Nutrient analysis (N:P:K) is 4:2.4:8 plus essential trace elements, & so is also suitable for use with any other vegetable crop. How to Grow Potatoes: Your seed potatoes will need chitting prior to planting. On receipt, stand them in an egg box in a cool, light room so they can begin chitting (shooting). Leave for 3-4 weeks, & short dark shoots (chits) will emerge. Take care not to damage these when handling or planting. Start with a little compost in the base of your container, about 6-7in (15-17cm). Place the tubers onto the compost & half fill the pot. Keep some horticultural fleece handy, should cold nights threaten. The green shoots will eventually poke up through the compost, & when they do, cover them with another layer of compost, water & feed. Keep on adding as the plants grow until you reach the top of the pot or bag. Keep your potatoes well watered as they grow
- dry conditions will result in a considerably reduced crop. Content: Complete Patio Potato Growing Kit
