Yohji Yamamoto is revered for creating elegant, masculine attire with over-sized silhouettes in unusual fabrics that challenges conventional fashion. The autumn/winter 2012 collection surpasses this by providing garments inspired by the mid-19th century with modern twists and impeccable attention to detail. A combination of Victorian military garments and evenings dress was sent down the catwalk in a self-assured and wearable fashion. The colour palette utilized textured greys, greens, sand and sultry blues evoking the ruggedness of the English countryside whilst simultaneously implying a modern man on the move.
Rick Owens DRKSHDW: Rick Owens DRKSHDW line was launched in 2008, focusing on jeans, T-shirts and other easy-to-wear pieces, and are infused with Rick Owens signature rebellious style. Perfect for creating a long, layered silhouette, DRKSHDW pieces are highly versatile and can be worn in a number of ways, to create looks with a sense of nonchalant urban cool.
Comme Des Garcons Homme Plus the main mens line from Comme De Garcons has been established since 1984. The lines use of black and distressed fabric during a period of colour and bouyancy made a major stir in the industry and the line continued to produce clothing that was largely monochromatic and asymmetrical throughout the 1980s, despite the dominant trends of the decade. Since its inception, Comme des Garcons has regularly been known for its unwillingness to go with the norm.
The radical geometries of Gareth Pugh's monochromatic designs are like armory for futuristic night fighters. Although associated to the Rick Owens group and quite macabre, Gareth emanates more of a sense of adventure and the essence of British fashion. In this new AW12 collection Pugh orchestrated that sense by cherry-picking through his own iconography. But the references to earlier collectionsthe stripes, the floating scarf points, the billowing volumes, the monochrome is refreshingly presented in each piece. Pughs signature all about refining with intense direction and one very particular point of view precision.
