Hi Graeme, I have attach Dr Levine's graph. The version in " Move a Little, Lose a Lot" has the number of calories burned printed on it. Below is a contribution I recently posted on a Linked In HR group discussion on Sitting Disease. Dr James Levine & his team at the Mayo Clinic analysed the links between activity, energy expenditure, & obesity over a 10-year time period. They discovered that basic daily activity – or NEAT (non-exercise activity thermogenesis) – is the single most important factor of obtaining & maintaining a healthy body. His research indicated the following calorie burn rates, per hour of activity (Kcal/hour): Sitting – 5 Standing – 15 Gum chewing – 20 Stair climbing – 200 Walking 1 mph – 100 Walking 2 mph – 150 Walking 3 mph
- 230 Dr Levine wrote a great book, “ Move a Little, Lose a Lot.” On page 143 he advises, “ Don’t sit when you can stand; don’t stand when you can move.” The treadmill desk was also prototyped by Dr Levine. As a former sedentary office worker, I suffered from many of the health & fitness effects of my “desk-sentence” before being liberated by a treadmill desk. It’s really been a life-changing experience – would never go back! I’m walking at 2 mph on my Life Span Treadmill Desk as I type this comment. Kind regards Paul The TR1200-DT5 Treadmill Desk is the perfect way to integrate exercise into your daily routine. It has a larger 2.25 HP High Torque motor as it has been designed for those using the treadmill desk for up to 6 hours a day.
