This Sunflower Russian Giant is excellent for the back of borders ideal for children to grow & birds love the seeds & will feed from the flower heads in the autumn.
The Russian Giant grows up to 3m (10ft) tall if given plenty of room & boasts eye-catching huge yellow flowers up to 30cm (12in) in diameter.
Sowing:
- Sow outdoors where they are to flower. Prepare the ground by raking until it is fine & crumbly removing any large stones. Sow thinly 12mm (1/2in) deep in drills 45cm (18in).
Growing:
- When large enough to handle thin out seedlings to 45cm (18in) apart.
Aftercare
- For really giant sunflowers sow indoors individually into 7.5cm (3in) pots late winter/early spring at a temperature of 20-30C (68-86F). Grow on in good light & plant out when all risk of frost is passed 45cm (18in) apart.
