The probe on the p H meter reads the level of p H in the soil & then transfers this number to the meter to give you an accurate reading of the p H level. A proper soil p H is necessary for plants to be able to utilise the important nutrients nitrogen potassium & phosphorus. A reading of 7.0 is considered neutral readings under that are acidic & readings higher than 7.0 are more alkaline.
