This Biochar Organic & Peat Free Seed Compost is a versatile & effective growing medium which will get seeds & seedlings off to a stronger start. It yields high germination rates ensures that early root formation is healthy & helps transplants to establish quickly when potted or planted out. It is ideal for propagation & can be used as a soil improver & as a potting compost. Each pack contains the revolutionary Biochar compound which provides the main structure & increases the productivity of most soils. It also contains: Organic coir which acts as a peat replacement; a mix of organic Vegetable based nutrients; Mycorrhizal fungi to maximise the uptake of nutrients by plant root systems; Wormcasts to provide viable Actinomycetes bacteria that support Mycorrhizal activity; Kelp seaweed to promote vigour & disease resistance. In independent trials the results showed greater plant growth & productivity. The extra image we have added above shows the results of propagation trials conducted by a UK independent grower & horticultural advisor for the Soil Association. Squash seedlings were raised into 2 different types of compost with the Biochar compost used in the left hand side of the tray. The results show a significant difference with larger healthier plants resulting from the Biochar compost.

What is Biochar?

Biochar is a carbon-rich product similar to charcoal & largely resistant to decomposition. It can stabilise carbon that has been absorbed by growing plants & store it in the soil preventing it re-entering the carbon cycle making this an eco-friendly product. It has a porous structure which provides a protective environment for beneficial soil fungi & bacteria which help plant roots extend their reach resulting in greater plant growth. It retains moisture & reduces leaching of nutrients from the soil allowing savings in irrigation & fertiliser costs.

Biochar has a number of benefits:

• Improves soil fertility & structure
• Reduces the need for costly fertilisers such as nitrates & phosphates which significantly add to greenhouse gas emissions
