The interior can accommodate 7 passengers or a fully equipped rescue unit. The noise level & accident risk are reduced by the shrouded tail rotor (fenestron). The effectiveness of the emergency rescue service is greatly enhanced when the helicopters carry emergency doctors. Consequently the AC 135 is often used by the ADAC (German automobile club) & OAMTC (Austrian automobile club).
