Preventing red spider mites Red Spider Mite: Control with Phytoseiulus Red Spider Mite feed on soft or fleshy leaved plants causing speckling & discolouration, ultimately causing leaf drop. They are slow moving, very light in colour with two distinct dark spots on their body. At high densities they will produce a silk that can cover the plant. All plants under protection can be attacked, outdoors soft fruit, runner beans & some ornamentals can be damaged. Mites will overwinter in conservatories etc & if damage occurred last year introduce the predator early. Control with Phytoseiulus: a fast moving predatory mite, bright red in colour. Breeds rapidly & spreads readily across foliage. Works best when temperatures reach 20?C for a few hours each day. Repeat applications every 2-3 weeks in hot weather.
