Because it is actually POR-15 in a thickened state, it works by isolating metal from moisture; without moisture present, steel can't rust. Por Patch is easier & less expensive to apply than epoxies because it doesn't require mixing. Since Por Patch actually bonds chemically to metal, the underlying surface does not have to be sanded before application. As long as loose or flaking rust is removed from the surface, an application of Por Patch will not only cover up the rust & prevent it from spreading, but will strengthen the underlying metal & seal holes by forming its own membranes. Through new blending technology, we have added solids, reduced the solvent carrier, & homogenized the resulting blend into a thick, workable paste which can be troweled from a can or squeezed from a tube. In response to many customer inquiries requesting a quick drying & easy-to-apply coating which enables a restorer to quickly topcoat POR-15 & other basecoats, POR15 has developed this Self-Etching Primer. With this product, you can even topcoat POR15 that has been in place for months or years. POR15 Self-Etching Primer is NOT a high-build primer, like POR15 Tie Coat Primer, but it can be sprayed on almost any painted surface & can be topcoated in 15
- 30 minutes.  This fantastic high-tech coating will gently etch tough & glossy, making the perfect surface for bonding to POR-15 Rust Preventive Paint, & all topcoats. It can be sanded lightly, &, if desired, multiple coats may be applied.
