The Nest Box
- The bird box itself follows the classic design for a nest box & will attract the widest range of garden birds. We use high quality Western Red Cedar (from renewable sources) so the box requires no treatment with preservatives or other chemicals as the natural oils in the wood will protect it against harsh UK weather conditions. The roof fits into a slot in the rear panel preventing rain from entering the box & is easily removed for cleaning out at the end of the breeding season. The nest box has a removable front panel with a 32mm entrance hole making it suitable for the widest range of garden birds including: Blue Tits Coal Tits Marsh Tits Great Tits House Sparrows Robins (with the front panel removed) And possibly Wrens You may read in various publications that the entrance hole must be a particular size to attract a specific species of bird (eg. 25mm for Blue Tits etc). However, these are purely guidlines & our experience has shown (also in consultation with the RSPB) that a 32mm hole will not deter Blue Tits, or any other small hole nesting garden birds. Using a 32mm hole may actually maximise the chances of birds nesting in the box. Specification & exacting standards. The camera used in this kit is one of our standard resolution 420TVL (TV lines) CMOS type cameras with IR (infrared). This will produce good quality colour images during the day & black & white images at night. Infrared IR light is invisible to the human eye & to birds, so will not effect roosting or nesting birds in any way. This bird box camera also has a built in microphone so you can hear as well as see what is going on. The 3.6mm lens is pre-focused to the correct position but can easily be adjusted should you need to. The Rest Of The System
- Consists of professional x 3 core cable (Audio/ Video/12v DC) connected to the camera in the nest box at one end, whilst the other end of the cable needs to be routed into your property. The connectors are black, yellow & white. The black one is for power & connects to the supplied 12V DC mains power adaptor (looks like a mobile phone charger). The remaining yellow (video) & white (audio) connectors can either plug into a spare AV/AUX socket on your TV, video / DVD recorder, or a spare scart socket using the supplied scart adaptor. Switch on the 12v mains adaptor, then select the appropriate AV channel on your TV, sit back & wait for the show to start.
