Otis Grand has played a major role in the evolution of the modern blues scene in Britain. After the decline of the British blues boom of the 60’s, Otis arrived on the scene & formed his 10-pieces Rhythm & Blues b&, & firmly established his act & style of blues in Britain, quickly becoming a firm favourite throughout Europe.

Guitarist Otis Grand has been playing blues guitar since the age of 13
- Otis says: “I never listened to any one but B.B. King & Robert Johnson for a very long time, & I am glad I’ve missed out on all the heavy blues/rock/acid thing that was going on in the 60’s. This way I have preserved the deep blues roots of my playing style, which now goes with me in whatever musical journey I am attempting.”

In 1988, Otis Grand released his first album ‘ Always Hot’ with his big b&. The band quickly dominated the UK blues scene. Otis has also appeared as an opening act for such major stars as John Lee Hooker, B.B. King, Albert Collins, Stevie Ray Vaughan & Steve Winwood.

Product Description

AGMP presents ORLANDO JULIUS with THE HELIOCENTRICS

Nigerian saxophone legend Orlando Julius’ collaboration with UK psychedelic jazz outfit The Heliocentrics on " Jaiyede Afro" (Strut Records ) is one of the most satisfying & progressive Afrobeat projects to come along in a while. On " Jaiyede Afro", Julius takes us back to his roots, revisiting several compositions from his early years which have never previously been recorded.

The album was recorded at the Heliocentrics’ fully analogue studio in North London. Like their their memorable collaborations with Mulatu Astatke & Lloyd Miller, the band takes Orlando’s sound into new, progressive directions, retaining the raw grit of his early work & adding psychedelic touches & adventurous new arrangements.
