Proof that you don’t need to break the bank to get high performance. Combining the balance & feel of a true twin with the control & response of an all mountain charger, the Typo is the very definition of an all-terrain snowboard. Built around Yes’s advanced Volume Directional Twin shape, this versatile board is equally happy in every type of terrain. As the board of choice for Yes legends Benji Ritchie & Mark Tremblay it’s pretty clear that no matter what or where you ride, the Typo can take it all in its stride. So, whether you’re a relative newcomer to the sport or a more seasoned rider, the Typo’s ability to tackle every type of terrain, from the park through to the backcountry with everything in between, make it the perfect board for anyone that doesn’t want to be held back. Rider Style Intermediate through to expert riders who are looking for a versatile all-terrain board that can take on the whole mountain. Utilising a responsive but relatively mellow mid flex, the Typo ensures that it doesn’t sacrifice any of its relatively easy going nature for its class-leading performance. Shape Overview As the lines between freeride & freestyle continue to erase, Yes had to address the needs of those committed to riding twins but finding themselves in more pow. Nose & tail volume is hard to notice on hardpack unless you’re nose/tail pressing, but in pow, it affects floatation, & you can feel it. This led them to the simple idea of the Directional Volume Twin. Symmetrical flex, centred stance, identical wide points of the board (therefore, NOT tapered), & identical shovel lengths but with a slightly lower volume tail. Also, to take full advantage of the Typo’s performance shape, Yes utilise their advanced Under Bite edge profile. Under Bite edges re-distribute a rider’s weight in such a way that it enhances ease of turning & edge hold. Creating divots inward at the binding area reduces & disrupts the surface area of the edge that has contact with the snow while the board is turning. This increases the edge pressure by distributing your weight/energy into the areas where it’s needed
- from the binding out & through the centre of the board where the carving arc is taking place. This segmentation of the sidecut into three principal zones focuses your body weight into areas that initiate, hold & release turns. Profile The Typo utilises Yes’s all-terrain focussed 2-4-2 Cam Rock profile. This combines low profile rocker zones at the tip & tail with a more pronounced camber through the middle of the board. This combination creates hook free zones at the tip & tail but also allows the contact points to engage faster than the more freestyle orientated profiles. This gives the board a more dynamic feel & really lets the more pronounced camber between the feet work in perfect harmony with the Under Bite edges to really deliver the performance feel that the Typo is so well known for. Construction The Typo is the perfect example of that old saying, ‘sometimes less is more’. Reading through the spec list, what you get is a traditional snowboard construction without any of the headline-grabbing super tech many brands flag up. However, that’s no bad thing, because what Ye S do is use a high-quality poplar wood core wrapped with high-quality bi-ax glass fibre. These two materials are the building blocks for a great snowboard; everything else at this price point is just fluff. So, what you get is a board that gives the perfect balance of pop, control & playfulness. everything that you could ever ask for with this kind of board. What type of base does it have? This is the term Yes use & is the grey zone that many companies play in. It’s Sintered Spec because it’s hardness & chemical properties are very close to true sintered bases, & its on-snow performance is also very close to true sintered
- but it’s formed using the extrusion process. How? – Well, the raw material is actually pre-consumer recycled (meaning it never left the factory) sintered base material. So while the heating & extrusion process has softened it slightly, it’s still much harder than true extruded.
