It wasn't really that long ago that backcountry free riding was the sole preserve of the bearded big mountain charger. Over the last few seasons though we've seen a seismic shift in what riders are doing in the backcountry. It's now not only big lines & steep faces but it's also about big booters & technical spins. That's all fine in itself, but the big problem is equipment. For what works in the powder is about as far away as you can get from what works for the freestyle rider. Have you ever tried spinning a fully directional freeride board? Well, if anyone was going to find a solution to this it was always going to be Ye S. With a roster of riders that reads like the who's-who of big mountain freestyle snowboarding, they have both the knowledge & skill to make this work. & boy have they made it work. Creating one of the most innovative & groundbreaking boards ever to hit the market. The multi-award winning 20/20 has revolutionised backcountry snowboarding. Built around a fully balanced wide platform twin tip shape Ye S have increased the surface area giving the board more float. But what makes the 20/20 really special, is the unique Powder Hull profile. This advanced 3-D concave profiling of the nose & tail shape channels snow down & under the board whilst the identical profile at the tail vents the snow out. This results in increased float in the nose with sink at the tail, giving the 20/20 the perfect riding characteristics in the pow without having to resort to a fully directional shape. As with their 420, Ye S have given the 20/20 a super tight sidecut (6 m on the 150 & 6.6 m on the 154), so although this is predominantly a powder board, its performance on the piste is startling. As you would expect on a board like this, Ye S don't hold back when it comes to construction. The advanced Weightless Core is formed from a combination of regular poplar, low-density poplar & superlight paulownia creating both a lightweight yet durable board. Add to this Tri-Ax glass structural layers which step up torsional flex & a high-grade sintered base for a faster ride & what you have is a high-performance board that will totally change the way you look at powder days forever. THe WORLDS MOST ADVANCe D POWDe R BOARD Re DUXWhen they first launched the Ye S 20/20, it's no exaggeration to say that it completely changed the way snowboarders approached backcountry snowboarding.  For the first time, riders had the opportunity to walk away from the long, directional boards that had become the norm for powder riding & finally step up to a true twin shape that allowed them to push the boundaries of backcountry freestyle. Now great as the original 20/20 was, it was primarily designed to work in powder. Unfortunately, once you got it out on the mountain, it seemed out of its depth. However, for the 2021 season, the 20/20 has been re-engineered to not only deliver exceptional performance in pow but to kill it over the rest of the mountain as well. With a fully revised 3D Coreless construction & advanced Mid Bite edge profile, Yes has created a unique snowboard that once again revolutionises snowboard performance, but this time it revolutionises it everywhere Rider Style: Resort & Backcountry Freestyle riders. Freestyle riders who are looking for a high-performance snowboard that delivers excellent performance on the hill & in the park, but which also delivers powder board levels of lift & float in even the deepest snow. Shape Overview The advanced 20/20 Powder Hull is the result of 2 years of design, prototyping & testing new variations of twin hull designs to draw out more refined floatation through base contours while improving in-resort, hard-pack performance. The first step was to pull the hull outline back from the very tips of the board, allowing the base to return to a more conventional surface profile needed for popping off jumps & holding onto backseat landings or high-speed wheelies. This refined concave maintains the original peak depth that is responsible for the Powder Hull's magical lift & floatation. However, by blending the Powder Hull into the base, Yes have been able to achieve a more predictable flex throughout the length of the board that has enhanced performance on both powder & hardpack. That performance is then further enhanced with the addition of the Mid Bite edge profile. This pulls in the sidecut profile through the middle of the board, allowing the designers to maintain the width you need for great float without compromising edge to edge speed. Profile As the new 20/20 has stepped up its all-terrain performance, it now utilises the Modern Camber profile. Designed to work in harmony with the Mid-Bite edges, the traditional camber delivers a solid & dynamic ride both on the edge & through the turn. Construction Inspired by George Greenough's groundbreaking Velo kneeboard designs of the '60s, Yes's Core Less tech similarily creates translucent holes in the Powder Hull areas. By removing areas of the Weightless wood core & modifying the resin ratios, the designers achieved substantial weight savings without compromising structural strength. Beyond weight saving, removing the core here was specifically an advantage of developing the 20/20's innovative new Powder Hull design. Without the shaping/flex limitations of wood, Yes were able to create highly refined base contours & develop a level of performance that was previously unachievable. ensuring that the 20/20 can take advantage of that new advanced construction, the structural layers are formed from high-performance tri-ax glass. These step-up the torsional rigidity of the board, ensuring that no matter how or where you ride, it's always going to deliver. Base As the 20/20 is all about high performance, Yes utilise a True Sintered base. True Sintered is harder & more expensive than extruded, & it can be faster for those that ride aggressively fast. However, to do that, it needs to be waxed more often & prepared for local conditions. ...
