THe WORLDS MOST ADVANCe D POWDe R BOARD Ye S’s state of the art Powder Hull technology has revolutionised backcountry snowboarding, & this is nowhere more obvious than with the stunning 420 Powder Hull. As the big brother to the standard 420, the PH takes inspiration from its little brother’s fish inspired shape but integrates into it the stunning Powder Hull technology. This advanced design creates concave base profiles in both the nose & tail that have been specially designed to channel snow under the board while sinking the tail at the rear. This creates genuinely awe-inspiring levels of lift & float in even the deepest snow. With the Powder Hull shape being so efficient at generating lift & float, Ye S has been able to cut down on the width of the 420PH compared to that of the normal 420. This has created a narrower riding platform so not only do you get that increase in lift & float you also get a more responsive ride on the piste. Rider Style Powder riders who are looking for the ultimate in deep snow float, but who still want a board that’s going to work on the piste. Shape Overview The 420PH is built around a tapered directional shape inspired by the standard 420. This versatile & easy going shape helps keep the nose up without losing the tail’s ability to hold in hard-pack. The stance is set back only slightly from the centre of the effective edge as it’s the longer & wider nose shape & short tail that stops you going over the nose. However, it’s the innovative 3D Powder Hull that sets this board apart. This creates two distinctive concave zones, a larger one at the nose & a shorter one at the tail to channel snow & give the board its outstanding powder performance. The concave shape acts differently at the leading end of the board than it does at the trailing end when riding in deep snow. At the leading end (nose), the concave draws air under the board causing lift & floatation. As the snow moves across the base, it releases off the trailing end (tail), causing the tail to drop downward. The smart thing about the Powder Hull technology is that it has no impact on the boards effective edge, so for what is a short board, you get a relatively long effective edge. Profile 6-0-2 Pow Rock: The 420 Powder Hull utilises the same powder specific Pow Rock profile as the standard 420. This integrates an extended rocker zone in the nose with a set-back flat zone from just forward of the front insert pack. This combination gives impressive amounts of lift in the nose while providing the board with a dynamic & poppy overall ride. The short rocker zone in the reduced length tail helps the back of the board sink in the pow while still delivering great drive out the end of the turn. Construction Internally the 420 Powder Hull utilises Ye S’s Weightless core. This is the lightest core in the Yes range & strikes a critical balance between light weight & strength. Using a lower density species of Poplar in areas that are not as structural & Paulownia in the areas that are, Yes shave precious weight off the board. This helps it not only float but also “feel” floaty. To ensure that the 420 PH still has the response to deliver exceptional performance away from the pow, Ye S create the structural layers from torsionally stiff tri-ax glass. Base As the Powder Hull is all about high performance, Yes step up the base material over the standard 420 to a True Sintered material. True Sintered is harder & more expensive than extruded, & it can be faster for those that ride aggressively fast. However, to do that, it needs to be waxed more often & prepared for local conditions. THe POWDe R BOARD THAT STARTe D A Re VOLUTION This 420 is all about surface area displacement to create float & stability, which in layman’s terms means it’s about getting lift from width rather than from length. What this achieves is a stunning short powder board that has a massively reduced swing-weight. This low swing weight is then matched with a super tight radius sidecut to create a board that can turn on sixpence in even the deepest snow. Now that all sounds great in theory but how does that work in real life. Well, do one run on a 420, & it’s safe to say your world will change. This board is that good to ride! The float is effortless, & its uncanny ability to make you feel like a pro snowboarder will have you grinning from ear to ear within seconds. Rider Styleevery snowboarder no matter how good or bad needs one of these for riding powder. Yes, it is that good. Shape Overview The 420 is inspired by surfboard shaper Steve Lis, & the 420 revolution that occurred when kneeboards influenced surfboard design. Working off the theory that riding Powder is all about flotation, it, therefore, makes sense that it’s the displacement of a board’s volume that is key rather than length. So, by punching out the waist width & drastically chopping the length, the 420 retains the surface area of a larger board, therefore displacing the same volume of snow for a much shorter length. The 148, for example, has the same circumference & base surface as a traditional 160, but as its mass is located much closer to your feet, it results in a far more manoeuvrable board. A light taper (12mm) helps keep the nose up without losing the tail’s ability to hold in hard-pack. Stance is only slightly set back from the centre of the effective edge because of the difference in nose & tail shovel. Profile The 420 utilises Ye S’s powder-specific Pow Rock profile. This features an extended rocker zone in the nose with a set-back flat area from just forward of the front insert pack. This combination gives impressive amounts of lift at the tip while providing the board with a dynamic & poppy overall ride. This helps it not only float but also “feel” floaty. To ensure that the 420 still has the response to deliver exceptional performance away from the pow, Ye S create the structural layers from torsionally stiff tri-ax glass. Base The 420 uses what we call Sintered Spec base material. This has the hardness & chemical properties, aswell as almost identical on-snow performance to that of a true sintered base, but is formed using the extrusion process. How? – Well, the raw material is actually pre-consumer recycled (meaning it never left the factory) sintered base material. So, while the heating & extrusion process has softened it slightly, it’s still much harder than true extruded. Yes's Uninc collection is a homage to yes founders Romain De Marchi, DCP & JP Solberg's legendary years at the helm of the iconic Uninc range. They've each chosen a board from the current Yes collection & have tailored it to exactly how they want it, with their own choice of graphic & spec. JP Solberg's choice is his take on the legendary 420 & features a graphic highlighting the ongoing extinction of rare species. It's no secret that the 420 has been JP's choice of board for a long time, & if you've ever ridden one, you'll know why. This iconic snowboard was the first board to explore that short, wide Steve Lis inspired fish profile for riding pow, & when it was first released in 2013, it was a revelation, spurning a whole host of imitators. The fact that over 8 years later, the 420 still has the power to absolutely blow your mind is a testament to just how right Alex Warburton & the Yes crew got this board in the beginning. Aimed unashamedly at riders looking for a powder focussed board to add to their quiver, this stunning board is a revelation to ride. It's hard to put into words just how amazing this board is to ride in the pow, but not only is it fun in the pow, it's an absolute hoot to ride on piste. It's no hard charger, but it so nimble under your feet because of that super tight sidecut. JP's 420 Uninc steps up the performance a notch compared to the standard 420 by utilising the construction from the 420 pro. Product Description

The Basic is the stalwart of the Ye S range & over the years it has earned itself a committed & loyal following thanks to its combination of all-terrain freestyle versatility & class leading performance. So, if you're one of those riders that wants to ride everything that the mountain throws at you, then the Ye S Basic really needs to be on your shopping list. From the park through to charging groomers & hitting those power stashes, this is one board that really can do it all.

The reason the Basic works so well is that Ye S have stuck to a tried & tested construction. By using high quality materials with innovative shape & design, they really have got this board spot on. To give it that playful freestyle feel it utilises a balanced twin tip shape, but it's the addition of the innovative Under-Bite edge profile that really brings this board alive.

By pulling in the profile under the toes & heels to form what looks like dents in the edges, Ye S has managed to enhance how the rider's energy interacts with the sidecut ensuring that the Basic delivers a level of performance that's a revelation. Those dents shift the energy from under the feet & out to the contact points & the centre of the sidecut & work in perfect harmony with the 4/4/4 Cam Rock profile. This means that not only does the board engage the turn better, it's also more reassuring no matter how icy or hard it gets.

Internally Ye S utilise their poplar wood core; this durable & responsive construction delivers the perfect balance of performance & feel & is perfectly matched to the softer flexing Bi-Ax glass structural layers. This gives the Basic that solid ride but with a more playful overall feel.

Finally, add the easy repair low maintenance base & what you have is a great performing board that really does punch above its weight. No wonder then why the Basic won White Lines testers choice award for 2016.
