Its distinctive wide nose, narrow swallow design has completely redefined powder board performance; however, what makes the Surfer so unique compared to other boards in this category is the way that it handles groomers. Thanks to its advanced geometry & exaggerated 3BT base profile, the Surfers performance out & about on the mountain is nothing short of remarkable. Yes, it’s expensive, but the best things in life always are. But to be honest, ride this board for just one day, especially a powder day, & you’ll realise that you just can’t put a price on how good it is. Shape Overview: Directional Swallow Tail When you first set eyes on the Surfer, there’s no doubt that you’ll want one, it is that special. However, there’s much more to that stunning shape than just aesthetics. Described by the factory as the most complex shaped snowboard they’ve ever built, the Surfers directional swallow tail profile has been designed to deliver the ultimate in performance. Its wide profile nose gives a level of lift & float at the front end that is nothing short of incredible. The fact it does this without being long & unwieldy is a testament to just how innovative the Surfer’s design is. Now at the tail, Bataleon fit a very complex swallow, this sinks the back of the board in deep snow, but more importantly, it also works in harmony with the Surfer’s tight sidecut to power up the tail of the board in the carve. Profile: Pow 3BT with Sidekick The Surfer utilises Bataleon’s Pow 3BT profile with Side Kick technology. This unique shape combines a narrow centre base section with wider, longer & higher side base upturns, giving unrivalled float at the front end & effortless turn initiation. The added upturn of the Sidekicks gives lightning-fast turn engagement. At the tail, the shorter & less pronounced side base upturns are integrated into the swallowtail, giving the board stunning response when steering off the back of the board in the pow or when driving out of turns on groomers. This is all then matched with a mellow traditional camber profile to step up control & response & to give the board that extra stability that you only really get with camber. Side Kicks Side Kick increases the side base uplift just outside the widest part of the nose & tail, making turn initiation smoother, increasing float in powder & improving the handling of the board in rough terrain. Construction Internally Bataleon doesn’t hold back when it comes to what’s inside the Surfer, & that’s one of the reasons why it performs so well even away from the backcountry. Heading up the high-end construction for this season is the all-new Ultra-Light Air Ride Core. This advanced wood core combines 80% lightweight Swiss paulownia & 20% durable poplar with state of the art composite vibration dampening stringers in the nose & tail to create Bataleon’s lightest & smoothest ever core. To this, Bataleon then adds its innovative D.R.S.T. carbon tubes technology. By inserting snappy carbon tubes into pre-milled channels that mimic the geometry of the sidecut, they add extra power through the length of the board, stepping up both control & response. That high-end, high-performance theme is carried through to the Surfers structural layers. These are formed from powerful Tri-Ax glass, creating a powerful torsional flex which energises the board. Additional carbon stringers running from under the insets out to the contact points at both the tip & tail, step up that power another notch. Base Now to ensure that the Surfer delivers excellent performance in any conditions Bataleon utilises their Hyper Glide S base. This durable sintered base material is super-fast & super tough. Float Surface: 154 = 89 159 = 93 New for this season on all Bataleon Boards is the Float-Surface rating. This measurement is calculated via a complex equation that takes into account surface area, nose & tail profile & set back. This then gives you a rating on how the board lifts & floats in powder, giving you a real comparison between the new generation of short, wide board against a traditional snowboard. Float surface starts at 50 for the lowest-rated board & goes up to 96 for the highest-rated board ...
