K2’s Mindbender 89 Ti a fun all-terrain ripper that takes it influence from wider skis, it’s also our overall Ski of the Year for men. Never hard to use but not lacking in performance, it’s as happy blasting carves on groomers as it is hounding out powder stashes. All Terrain Rocker coupled with a Powerwall construction & a Ti Y-Beam provides the control & edge grip by stopping the skis twisting & flexing too much at high speed. At slower speeds the ski initiates easily & in tricky conditions it handles perfectly. Terrain Type & Ability Level Terrain Type Suited to a variety of terrain, from groomers to fresh snow. The construction uses Ti, making it slightly stiffer than the 90C version & meaning it grips better on firmer snow & at higher speeds. This is the ski to grab when it’s not waist deep & you want to rip up whatever conditions you find. It will carve all day long on marked trails but where it really shines is off to the side. Trees, slush, tracked-out pow, the 89 Ti handles it all expertly. Skier Type Seasonnaires, all mountain skiers, 1 ski quiver skiers, or part of selection, this ski has a lot of appeal. It’s ideally suited to advanced skiers, but that’s not to say that stronger intermediates & lighter expert skiers won’t get a lot from it. The Mindbender 89 Ti is as much about mindset as it is ability. This is for skiers looking to go everywhere, in all kinds of snow, realists who know that deep powder is a rare blessing, & who value a ski that genuinely works in every condition. Overview Shape A 89mm waist is the sweet spot for this kind of ski; wide enough to float & still feel quick enough edge to edge for groomed slopes to be fun. The radius favours stability but, working with the rocker on the nose, helps with lift & initiation. The shallow rocker on the tail improves control & allows for easy release. Rocker All Terrain Rocker skis have a gradual rise to the tip for great versatility in all conditions, with a short, low rise in the tail for added control in variable snow. Core A wood core with a mix of maple & aspen. The maple is an energetic, tough, dense wood that absorbs impact; aspen is lightweight & resilient, a great all-round material. A Titanal Y-Beam increases the torsional stiffness to improve precision. Construction Powerwall construction ensures that power transfer is dramatically enhanced with the oversized ABS sidewalls that are laminated & pocketed within the wood core in the midbody of the ski. With the sidewall extending into the heart of the ski, the transmission of energy from skier to ski edge is direct & precise. Key Features Titanal Y-Beam Technology Titanal has long been used in high-end skis & is known for providing a damp, stable ride at high speeds & on variable terrain, but K2’s Y-Beam technology takes things a step further with dramatically enhanced performance tuning. Y-shaped prongs set over the edges in the shovel of the ski provide precise, powerful turn initiation, while the narrower metal shape in the tail of the ski provides the support you need for charging while still remaining manoeuvrable, forgiving, & easy to break free from turns.e B tester’s comments: Simon (Fort William) They are super capable everywhere & provide go-anywhere-fun. Responsive, poppy & playful which are all things I like in a ski. A great choice for seasonnaires or advanced skiers wanting to one ski to ski hard anywhere. The updated Mindbender 90C is the playful one in the Mindbender line-up, easy to get on with & not demanding to ski, but it holds an edge & rips out carves when you re blasting down pistes. It s new shape amps everything that was good about the original, making it more versatile & boosting confidence, smoother into the turn & cleaner out of it. 90mm underfoot ticks the box for float in fresh snow without hindering edge-to-edge performance in packed conditions & pistes. The All Terrain Rocker compliments this shape perfectly for smooth control in & out of turns, whatever the conditions. Terrain Type & Ability Level Terrain Type Suited to a variety of terrain, from groomers to fresh snow. The construction, & having no metal, makes it very smooth in chopped snow, bumps & trees. It hasn t got the grip for skiing fast on the steepest, iciest routes off piste, but it ll do everything else whilst helping the skier to improve. Skier Type Ideal for someone who predominantly sticks to groomed trails or ventures just off the sides. They prefer a nimble & agile ski but like something slightly wider than your average piste ski for enhanced stability over rougher terrain or a bit more float. Overview Shape This ski, with its 90mm waist, strikes the perfect balance for all-mountain skiing wide enough for flotation yet agile for quick edge-to-edge fun on groomed slopes. Its radius prioritises stability, working alongside the nose rocker for even more lift & easy turn initiation. Meanwhile, the subtle tail rocker enhances control & ensures effortless release, delivering true versatility Rocker All-Terrain Rocker is a gradual, extended rise at the tip & tail for added versatility & control in all conditions. Camber underfoot ensures good grip things are firmer. Core Aspen Veneer. A single wood species ensures consistency
- giving riders the advantage of a proven flex, durability, & liveliness. Construction Slant Wall & Hybritech: These cutting-edge advancements in K2's ski construction involve adding a 30-degree angle to the sidewall & seamlessly blending sidewall construction underfoot with cap construction at the extremities. The result is a ski that excels in agility, responsiveness, precision, & power while also reducing swing weight & increasing durability. Key Features Torsion Control Design Designed to enhance stability & control in all snow types, Torsion Control Design combines a progressive torsional flex with a balanced & even longitudinal profile. Torsionally stiffest in the forebody & centre of the ski, then relaxing throughout the tail, K2 skis with TCD are characterized by precise, accurate turn initiation & smooth, consistent turn release. Spectral Braid Another implementation of K2 s Torsion Control Design, patented Spectral Braid is a first-of-its-kind variable angle fibre reinforcement that allows for precision-tuned torsion & flex by altering the fibre orientation along the length of the ski. Lively, energetic, & composed, skis with K2 s Spectral Braid have stability & control in spades while remaining extremely manoeuvrable. EB tester’s comments: Jon (Tamworth) Playful all-mountain, all-rounder that is equally happy on piste as it is in chopped up snow or slush.
