Kastle is a speciality ski manufacturer from Austria founded in 1924.  Although not considered one of the major brands here in the UK if you head across to the Alps you will see a large number of these, & they are increasingly becoming popular by those that have found out Kastle’s well-constructed, stable, agile & incredibly versatile range of skis. One of Kastle’s main technological advantages is their patented hollowtech design system.  This has been developed over the last 30yrs & means that the tip of each ski has oval-shaped cut-outs, leaving just a layer of opaque fibreglass this reduces the weight of each ski shovel by up to 15 percent.  The decrease in mass helps the ski minimize vibrations & hold an edge more precisely.  This coupled with using only the latest & best materials to construct their cores & their timeless clean graphics means that Kastle’s dedication to producing some of the world’s best skis will carry on for another season. The Kastle MX 78 is at home on ambitious on-piste terrain as it is in variable off-piste conditions.  It retains the excellent on piste nature that you get with their RX models thanks to the 0.5mm Titanal sandwich construction yet is slightly wider underfoot & so offers slightly more versatility in terms of the terrain that it can tackle.   Ski

MX: Kastle’s MX skis have unrivalled power & control.  These are another range that are incredibly versatile, but offer great power & strength through every turn. For advanced & expert carvers. With the help of the HOLLOWTECH technology the ski‘s running characteristics is enhanced. Kastle MX98 2015 Skis With Attack 13 Bindings

The new MX98 is a powerhouse of a ski - Featuring a twin titanal laminate and silver fir core with classic sidewall construction it clings to the piste, and yet in powder the hollowtech nose gives tonnes of float. With the help of the HOLLOWTECH technology the ski‘s running characteristics is improved. The cutout section in the shovel leads to a reduced weight of the freely vibrating zone by almost 15 %. The resulting lower inertia moments optimize the retraction behavior of the ski. This means that after an impact the shovel returns much faster to the stable condition, enabling the ski to keep its track much more precisely.  A 98mm width increases the surface area of the ski and therefore the float substantially, and yet with the classic sidewall construction and full wood
core, this ski retains the Kastle signature of rock-solid edge hold when required in firmer snow. The MX98 strives for more versatile performance and, as such, a mix of ash and silver fir is used to construct the wood core. This combination offers weight savings without compromising stability. With a 0.5 titanal base sheet and a 0.5 mm titanal top sheet, stability is optimized with a minimal weight increase. The HOLLOWTECH at the shovel delivers further weight reduction. A 45°aluminium bevel at the surface of the ski distributes impacts and protects against mechanical wear. SPECIFICATION Ski Geometry: 132mm-98mm-117mm Turn Radius: 23 Metres (For 174cm Length) Base Angle: 1 Degrees Side Edge Angle: 2 Degrees Base: Full sintered base material with race diamond structure and graphite for
enhanced glide Bindings This ski comes complete with Tyrolia for Kastle Attack 13 Bindings. These feature a DIN range of 4-13mm. It also features Tyrolias Freeride Toe, a height adjustable toe to ensure compatibility with modern ski boot designs. What a stunning set of skis! What do I do with my MX88s now?! I though that Kastle would be pushing it with the 98mm width for a ski that is this powerful, but it is simply stunning. It is not for the lazy skier, but if you hark back to the days of hot hatches with zero power steering, where YOU have to put all the effort in and get to feel everything in return as you thunder down all terrains, then get the MX98 as soon as possible to see what I mean!
