- Artesania Latina. Generally speaking we can say that there are two types of tug-boats: those that work in ports & those that work on the high seas. Within these groups there are numerous local variations as well as boats of different sizes & outputs. The Sanson was a high seas tug from the end of the 19th & the beginning of the 20th century. Its engine was driven by a steam boiler that could produce up to 2000HP, reaching speeds of up to 14 knots. It was fifted with large fenders at the bow & along the sides. Generally, its function was not to tow but rather to push the transatlantic giants.
