Multi-colour 3D printing has never been so easy & affordable with the da Vinci 2.0 duo. Unlike many other 3D printers the da Vinci 2.0 has two extruders. This means that the user can create multi-coloured objects using any two of the 13 different colour cartridges that are available for this machine. The cartridges are easy to install & change, with the vibrant colours ensuring great results time after time. Fast & affordable 3D printing 3D printing is no longer reserved for science fiction movies nor is it prohibitively expensive. XYZ has now brought it into the mainstream & designers, businesses & schools, as well as home users, can now enjoy the novelty & creativity possible with affordable 3D printing. Although it is becoming more commonplace there is still little to match the experience of creating your first 3D ‘print’. & the da Vinci 2.0 makes it easy to get started. More or less ready to go straight out of the box the set up time is drastically reduced as the printer will automatically calibrate itself. Calibration used to be the bane of 3D printers but the da Vinci 2 takes care of everything. Then you just need to install the cartridges, this may take a few minutes at first but, once done, you can be designing & printing in no time. Printing your first model Once the printer is set up it is simplicity itself to begin printing your first object. You can select a pre-designed object from the start menu via the LED panel on the front of the printer. Or, alternatively, connect your PC & choose a model from the extensive selection provided in XYZ’s cloud library. Of course you are certainly not limited to existing models & can design & clone almost unlimited objects. Great news for designers, model makers & hobbyists who will all enjoy planning, designing & then printing their creations. The maximum volume, or size, of the object that can be printed is 5.9” in height with a width & depth of 7.8”. This large size gives the user plenty of scope in the type & scale of objects they can print. Fast printing The da Vinci 2.0 uses FFF (Fused Filament Fabrication) to print its models. FFF delivers fast results compared to other technologies. The filament is the ABS plastic material used to print an object (as ink would be in an inkjet printer) & is pumped through a tube to the print nozzle, or extruder, which then ejects the filament onto the printing platform. The model is built by successive layers of plastic being bonded to the layer beneath it. In this way the object is gradually built up with the process taking around an hour for simple shapes though more complex designs will take longer depending on the resolution used. The da Vinci 2.0 has four resolution settings ranging from 100 microns (the finest) to 400 microns (the lowest resolution but the fastest to print). The resolution can be easily changed by the user when required depending on the object being printed.
